What is validated when I mark the note complete?

Starting in version 8.22.12 notes will be validated upon selecting the complete checkbox. This is enabled by default for all clients. If invalid the note will not be marked complete. This is enforced on all notes unless they are of "special type" cancellation or the "Do not apply toward visit count" is selected.

The following items are tested as part of the validation:
  1. At least one diagnosis is present on the note.
  2. Any charge with billable units must have at least one diagnosis pointer.
  3. Any charge with billable units may not have a diagnosis pointer greater than the available diagnosis. (if there are three diagnosis there may not be a "D" diagnosis pointer).
  4. Diagnosis may not have repeated diagnosis pointers.
  5. Rules stored in the Primary Insurance => Rules tab are enforced. To lift the restriction change the insurance rule.
  6. CCI Edits are enforced. Both Do Not Bill Together and 59 modifier rules. You may lift this restriction in Settings => Documentation => Enforce CCI Edits.
  7. The KX and GA modifiers are enforced if the insurance is medicare and the medicare cap and abn (respectively) are selected on the case.
  8. The GP, GO, and GN modifiers are enforced for medicare insurances or where otherwise indicated on the insurance record.
  9. The UB modifier is enforced if the insurance indicates UB modifier is required.
  10. The 96 and 97 modifiers are enforced if the case has habitation selected.
  11. The billing min/max units is enforced. To lift this requirement set the min/max billing units to 0 in Settings => Defaults.

We welcome your feedback. If you would like to see a new rule on this validation list or an adjustment to an existing rule please contact us using the help widget on the right of the browser window on a QuickEMR page.
